FAQ's

I am going to answer some questions that I get asked a lot, and some others to tell you more about what we are doing. If you have any other questions about this trip please comment on this post or email me and I will do another post.

Where are we going? Ukraine is a country in Eastern Europe. We are are going to a city in Ukraine called Krivoy Rog. It is south, and a little east of Kiev, the capital.

When are we leaving? We are leaving this coming Thursday - Thursday July 1st.. We will fly out early Thursday morning. We are supposed to be at the airport at 7 am, even though our flight doesn't leave until 11 am. So that means I have to get up at 5 am! :( That is way to early for me, as I am not a morning person. :) We arrive in Kiev, the capital, around 2:30 pm on July 2, but it is actually a longer travel time because they are about 8 hours ahead of us. Then at about 9 pm on July 2, we leave on an overnight train ride into Krivoy Rog, the city we are going to be in.

How long are we going to be there? Almost three weeks. We get into the airport at 12:45 pm on Monday July 19.

What are we going to be doing there? We are going to be doing a camp for adults with disabilities. These adults live in handicapped homes, and they have metal or physical disabilities. Some of them have been in a car and need surgery; well, they're families don't want to have to pay for the surgery, so they put this person in the handicapped facility, and take all of the person's things and money for themselves. So we are doing a camp for them. We will have dramas, crafts, devotionals, music, and other activities for them to do during the camp. Each camp is three days, and on the third day we will take them to a park where we will have a grill out, and they can play games, and possibly swim (in water that's about 6 inches deep). This doesn't sound like it would be very fun for adults, but they sit in their beds all day, all year long. They do not celebrate any holidays, they don't have any visitors, they never go outside, they just sit in their beds all day, all year long. This is their ONLY outing all year long. We will also have three extra days at the end when we might visit some dorms, orphanages, or baby hospitals.

Am I excited? Yes, I am very excited! I was complaining to my mom last week, because everybody was asking me that. :) But it's nice that so many people are interested in our trip. I haven't been asked that much lately, but that's probably because everybody has already asked me. :)

Are we going to be blogging while we are there? We are going to try our hardest to. There are no promises though, as the internet doesn't work most of the time. If we don't post at all while we are there, you will know that the internet isn't cooperating, and that we will post lots of pictures when we get home!
